Step drills can drill a range of holes of different sizes with the same drill. Due to the small drilling depth of each drill size, step drills are mainly used for drilling thin materials such as sheet metal.
Most step drill bits are made of steel and are typically used for wood applications, but you can choose cobalt bits for metal drills.
