Anchor Swivel

The swivel is used to secure the anchor to the chain to prevent the chain from twisting when the ship is moving at the berth. The swivel ring also helps access the bow rollers in the correct direction when the anchor is retracted.

When should swivel anchors be replaced?

The exact time of each component cannot be determined, but commonly used anchor lines are usually replaced every 3 to 5 years. Chains generally last longer than anchor swivels, but it's best to check annually. Make sure the anchor swivel is still properly seated.
